Before I start deep diving into haunts and spookiness, I just have to know... how many of you have had spooky experiences, and do you think you have them more than most? Let me know in the comments!
I really feel like somewhere in my subconscious mind, I may have always had them. There came a point just a few years ago where I came to the conclusion that it may not be the places I am, but just me causing these experiences to happen. Not in a PK manifestation or poltergeist situation, but that I may be a beacon. I believe I had myself closed off for a long time, especially after some particularly spooky experiences, but also that I can open and close anytime I choose. I also believe that I am more vulnerable when I sleep, as many odd occurrences wake me up, seem to happen as I'm waking, or keep me from falling into sleep often.... Almost like my sleeping self opens me up to them, if that makes sense. I've wondered over the years if this is a form of sleep paralysis and not spiritual happenings, but I've read about a ton of these experiences, and I've never felt that any of them sound like what I have experienced, so I don't think that is the case.
I also seemed to have more spooky experiences after one significant incident which also leads me to believe that specific spirit may always be around which is a terrifying thought... But one I do not take lightly.

I take my own precautions to keep myself safe, and have learned a lot about that over the years, but the most important thing is to not be afraid. That's often hard in the moment, but if I repeat it to myself like a mantra, often it takes just a few moments to subside. It helps to take deep breaths as well. If I can't get out of that mindset, I call on white light and ask for protection, which I learned about recently. If that doesn't work initially (it almost ALWAYS does), I turn on a favorite show, grab a book, or put on an audiobook or podcast until I have calmed enough to go to sleep, at which time I will again ask for white light and protection, before allowing myself to fall asleep. Night time, when trying to go to sleep seems to be the only time I feel actual fear, which I'm sure relates to the fact that that's when a lot of my experiences occur as I said above.
That's not to say that it happens every night, but I do feel like it is especially prevalent when I've watched or read something spooky... but again, not each time. This takes me back to when I was a child, which I reference in my intro post, and how I would have a hard time falling asleep those nights. I've always wondered if reading or thinking about it subconsciously opens me up as well, for these reasons. I'm curious to see if it picks up now that I am actively, purposely, and frequently doing so more often in order to write about it here.
Again, going back to possible happenings as a child - they do say children are more susceptible - I don't remember specifics, but I do remember, again, having a hard time sleeping in certain places, but not others. One place was my maternal grandparents house(s)... we happened to have learned that there was a possibility something had been following my grandmother for some time after one specific experience which seemed to make activity cease.
I also have to take into account that people on both sides of my family have had many experiences as well and seem(ed) to have abilities. If you're interested in the topic, you know they say that abilities are possibly passed through generations, so this is something I ponder a lot as well.
I plan on sharing many of my own experiences here, scattered among the haunts we all know, and ones we may not... and other spooky subjects. I simply wanted to introduce that side of myself beforehand, so you know I feel strongly about it, and that any story I tell about myself is genuine, and actually happened.
